Kitalpha's Story

Kitalpha is the full brother to Kingmambo and the only son of the Great "Miesque" at stud.  Today Kitalpha is a proven sire with comparable performance numbers to both his brother Kingmambo, and his sire Mr. Prospector (comparisons at their 4th crop timeframe).

HISTORY

Kitalpha was foaled in Kentucky, and bred by the Niarchos family who also bred Kingmambo, and campaigned Miesque. As a two year old Kitalpha trained in England, and was subsequently shipped to France for his final prep. Close evaluation determined there was need of a surgery. The surgical outcome rendered Kitalpha unable to race, and he was ultimately offered for sale at the Deauville, France public sale. Kitalpha was purchased by the International Bloodstock Agent Mr. Robin Bruss on behalf of a South African stallion syndicate.

Arriving in South Africa (SAF) Kitalpha began his stud career at the Rumbavu Stud, where the famous IpeTombe was prepped and trained. While at stud Kitalpha produced 4 crops of approximately 35 foals each year. From these four crops Kitalpha had 115 starters and their performance is detailed in this web site under "progeny performance".

It was only half way through his first crop's inaugural racing year that Kitalpha was again threatened by another unplanned interruption. Amidst political turmoil, and with no consensus among the syndicate, Kitalpha was abruptly shipped to a quarantine in Johannesburg, and Robin Bruss offered the young stallion for sale. Simultaneous with Kitalpha's pending departure his racing 2 year olds were showing great promise. At the time of his final departure for Kentucky, his progeny had posted two stakes winners, and his son "Frogwatch" was well on his way to becoming his country's CHAMPION 2YO, and leading money earner.

It was November 07, when we were notified of Kitalpha's availability, and with little time for due diligence a transaction was completed, and we arranged transportation from SAF. The entire trip from South Africa to Kentucky took over 120 days, with quarantines on the Island of Mauritius, the Netherlands, France, and New York, and a final quarantine in KY. At the time of his arrival Kitalpha had already had several new winners.
