The Owners

As the owners, Gerry and Dana Aschinger are very active participants in the maintenance and daily operations at War Horse Place. Both have worked with horses their entire lives and began working with stallions and broodmares in Ohio 20 years ago. They realize that offering personalized service and attention is key to the development of the horses on the farm.

The Manager

War Horse Place is managed by Lauren Morales. Originally from Fort Collins, CO, Lauren grew up around Quarter Horses all of her life.

It wasn' t until her senior year as an Equine Science major at Colorado State University that she became very intrigued by the thoroughbred industry. Thanks to one of her favorite professors, Lauren decided to move to Lexington to do the KEMI internship. She was an intern at Margaux Farm and after her internship was over she chose to take a permanent position at the farm. For the first two years she was a division foreman and then Broodmare Manager. During her last year at the farm she held the position of Assistant Farm Manger.

Lauren came to War Horse Place December 2007 with experience in reproduction and broodmare care, sales prep, nutrition, and post surgical care. Lauren is a well-rounded addition to the farm. Our veterinary care provider, Dr. Chris Newton and Lauren have become a dynamic team through their recent experiences working together.

The Veterinary Care

Chris Newton 140px.jpg War Horse Place has the honor of having Dr. Chris Newton, the newest partner at Rood and Riddle Equine hospital, as the provider of veterinary work for the broodmares, foals and yearlings. Under his medical attention War Horse Place has had huge success with an average of over 85% of the mares conceiving over the last 5 years. The exceptional part of that average is that more than 90% of these were successful upon the first cover. Not only is the farm lucky to have such extraordinary veterinary talent on a daily basis, it is also fortunate to have him as a next door neighbor which makes him only minutes away if an emergency develops.

No farm would be succesful without the talent of the many who participate in the daily farm work and activities. War Horse Place has only experienced personnel handling, foaling and caring for the horses on the farm. The constant attention to detail that these individuals provide assures that your horses will receive nothing but the very best.
