Behind every strong organization is an inspirational force who has the ability to lead people with their clear vision and deep commitment.  For War Horse Place, it was our co-founder Gerry Aschinger.  All who knew Gerry, knew a man that had a kind spirit yet a warrior’s heart. Gerry never saw an obstacle that was too big.  He carried his “can do” attitude with him, both, as an entrepreneur and a horseman.

As an entrepreneur, he started and ran many successful businesses throughout his life.  He was a consummate horseman and together with his wife, Dana, developed War Horse Place Farm in 2002.  After breeding the multi-million dollar stakes winning horse, Prayer for Relief, he attained his trainers license and trained for 8 years producing Stakes winners Dramedy and Lots O’ Lex.

As a horseman, Gerry was an avid polo player and a member of the United States Polo Association (USPA) for 32 years.  He played in Dayton OH, Scottsdale AZ, and Sarasota FL and was an active member of the polo clubs.

He combined his love for business and horses when he was elected to Governor At Large within the USPA and later became Governor of Club Membership and Development.  In that role, he started the Polo Plus program that is still active today and enables members to receive discounts on many products used by the membership.  In 2008, he was asked to be a board member of Global Licensing…the group responsible for running the USPA clothing industry across the world.  He became the acting Chairman of that board and held that position until 2018.

Although we miss his incredible strength and presence, his spirit is still alive in our farm family today.  Leaving a legacy is not about leaving something FOR people but rather leaving something IN people.  Gerry’s legacy will forever be the cornerstone of War Horse Place Farm.
